Flyers Injury News: Get Devastating Update on Foerster

December 17, 2025 by Heavy

The Philadelphia Flyers did not get the news they wanted to hear regarding Tyson Foerster on Wednesday. The 23-year-old forward sustained an upper-body injury during a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 1.

Foerster sustained a suspect arm injury while taking a one-timer. He let the shot go, but immediately dropped to the ice. Then, he skated off, clutching his right arm as he headed down the tunnel.

Here’s a look at the play in question:

Foerster had been on IR since December 3. The initial prognosis was a week-to-week situation. However, news on Wednesday was hardly encouraging. Flyers insider Kevin Kurz broke the gut-wrenching news:

Tyson Foerster’s season is likely over. Flyers say he underwent arm surgery and will be out for 5 months.

The prognosis is now five months. If everything goes well, Foerster may be ready to return to the ice at some point in April. However, it may be a bit too late unless the Flyers can make the playoffs.

The former 23rd overall pick from the 2020 NHL Draft had scored 10 goals in 21 games before going down with the injury. The Flyers are already facing enough challenges with scoring. As such, losing Foerster could further exacerbate the Flyers’ scoring woes.

Flyers Could Look to Trade Market to Find Help

The most immediate action GM Daniel Briere could take is look to the trade market for help. The Flyers could certainly use another top-six forward to offset the loss of Foerster. Unfortunately, this season is arguably the worst ever for the trade market. Just about every team is looking for forward help. But few teams are selling.

Perhaps a club like the Vancouver Canucks could be a good fit. Impending UFA forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Evander Kane are reportedly available. Nevertheless, there is no telling what the price tag might be for those players.

Sherwood and Kane make sense for contending teams looking for rentals. While the Flyers are in the hunt for a playoff spot, they’re not quite in a position to bring in rentals. At the same time, it might not be the right time for Philly to sacrifice pieces for veterans.

Philly Could Look for Internal Options to Fill Void

It might make more sense for the Flyers to look for internal options to fill the void. The club has some players in the pipeline who might be able to get a look. For instance, a fifth-round pick like 22-year-old Alex Bump might be worth a look. The same goes for former Michigan State forward Karsen Dorwart.

These options may be nothing more than a stopgap solution. But then again, why not give them a look? The Flyers are still technically in a rebuild. So, it would make sense to give as many players as possible a shot at the NHL.

Otherwise, the Flyers may have to find a solid depth option on the trade market, particularly leading up to the trade deadline. However, Philly may pull the trigger now ahead of the December 20 roster freeze.

The next couple of days could see a flurry of roster moves, including waiver activity. So, who knows, the Flyers may choose to be active on the waiver wire as well.
