Former Panthers QB signs with Packers

July 24, 2024 by Panthers Wire

The Green Bay Packers just gave a new contract to a quarterback. (No, not that one.)

That quarterback is former Carolina Panther Jacob Eason, who was officially signed to the team’s 90-man roster on Tuesday afternoon. With Jordan Love deciding not to hit the field until he reaches a deal of his own, Green Bay signed the 26-year-old passer to take up some practice reps.

A University of Washington product, Eason was a fourth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 draft. He wouldn’t play in his first NFL game until 2021, when he completed two of his five throws for 25 yards and an interception against the Los Angeles Rams.

Eason would be waived by the Colts later on that season, and was quickly scooped by the Seattle Seahawks—where he lasted until the summer of 2022. The Panthers then claimed him off waivers from Seattle on Aug. 31.

His lone appearance of the 2022 season came in Week 6 against, coincidentally, the Rams—a relief outing in which he connected on three of his five throws for 59 yards and a pick. He’s since landed brief stints with the San Francisco 49ers, a second with the Panthers and, more recently, the New York Giants.
