When it comes to the qualities you look for in an NFL quarterback, Alabama’s Bryce Young checks every box… except size.
Asked if that was a concern for Panthers head coach Frank Reich when it comes to evaluating for their top pick, Reich referred to it as a “consideration,” but there are other factors at play was well.
“Absolutely that is a consideration,” Reich said, via ESPN’s David Newton. “It’s also a consideration … his playmaking ability, his accuracy and his leadership, his instincts.”
Is Bryce Young’s height (5-10) a factor for the Panthers in evaluating the Bama quarterback for the top pick? Says Frank Reich: “Absolutely that is a consideration. It’s also a consideration . . . his playmaking ability, his accuracy and his leadership, his instincts.’’

Beyond his throwing ability, Young showed the temperament, sixth-sense and maturity it takes to lead an NFL franchise. That said, a 5-foot-10 and slim 194-to-204-pound frame isn’t exactly the build you’d prefer in such a violent sport.
While, sure, there have been shorter quarterbacks that’ve had tremendous success in the pros. Guys like Drew Brees, Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray have a bulky, powerful, squatty build.
With that said, if anybody can break the mold it appears to be Young, who can do just about anything on a football field from the QB position.
