The Carolina Panthers started the season on a 3-0 run that had quarterback Sam Darnold looking like a darkhorse MVP pick.
In the five games since, the Panthers have a 1-5 record and Darnold looks like he did during his time with the New York Jets: lost. Unfortunately, the news for the former No. 3 overall pick just keeps getting worse.
“After two days of testing, exams revealed that #Panthers QB Sam Darnold has a fractured scapula, sources say,” said NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Twitter late Wednesday night. “The right shoulder injury will most likely lead to Darnold missing several weeks. PJ Walker, his backup, will step in.”
Fans immediately reacted to the news on social media – and not in the kindest way. Panthers fans, and football fans in general, thinks it’s time to move on from the former USC quarterback.
“Sam Darnold’s agent must have been the source here,” one fan said. ‘Hasn’t looked right the past couple of weeks?’ Why hasn’t he looked right the past 4 years? That’s what I want to know.”
