For the Green Bay Packers, the upcoming wild-card matchup against the Chicago Bears on January 10, is more than just a playoff game. It’s the rubber match in one of the NFL’s oldest rivalries.
In Week 14, the Packers earned a 28-21 win at Lambeau Field. Just two weeks later, the Bears returned the favor, winning 22-16 in overtime at Soldier Field.
Now, the rivals meet again — this time in the postseason — with the wild-card game set to be played at Soldier Field under windy, snowy conditions. If that weren’t challenging enough, the Packers also enter the matchup riding a four-game losing streak.
Still, Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley isn’t lacking confidence heading into the decisive showdown. In fact, he made a bold prediction about what’s next for Green Bay.
Jeff Hafley Is Preparing for a Playoff Run With Packers
While speaking with reporters on January 7 about the wild-card matchup, Hafley left little doubt about how he believes the game will end.
“We are not going to be done, so I’ll see you guys next week,” Hafley said, slamming his hands down on the podium before walking away.
It was a striking vote of confidence from the Packers assistant, especially considering Green Bay hasn’t won a game since Week 14 — which, ironically, came against the Bears.
There was also more weight behind Hafley’s comment. A loss to Chicago would immediately allow him to turn his attention toward his next career move, with Hafley expected to be a candidate for NFL head coaching openings.

Jeff Hafley Comments on His Head Coaching Aspirations
Just before delivering his emphatic statement, Hafley made it clear how much Green Bay means to him.
“Yeah, I love this group. I love being part of the Green Bay Packers,” Hafley said. “I never take that for granted every day when I drive in and get to see Lambeau Field — honestly.
“I’m a guy that started coaching Division III football and worked my way up to be a college head coach. And now I’m part of the greatest organization there is, getting to call plays.”
Hafley emphasized that he never takes his role for granted and explained why speculation about his future hasn’t affected his focus.
“I don’t think it’d be fair to anybody in here — anybody a part of this — for me not to give everything I have for this game,” Hafley said.
While remaining fully locked in on the postseason, Hafley didn’t shy away from acknowledging his long-term ambitions.
“Would I like to become a head coach again one day? Absolutely, for sure,” he said.
Hearing Hafley speak so passionately about Green Bay is likely bittersweet for Packers fans. He has been a welcomed addition since joining the staff in 2024, but many believed even then he may not be in Green Bay for long.
So far, no reports have surfaced indicating that teams have requested interviews with Hafley. That could change quickly, however, especially if the Packers’ season ends this weekend against the Bears.
