CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — The Panthers activated two players with North Carolina ties from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Bills, including at quarterback.
The team announced Saturday it moved outside linebacker Boogie Basham and quarterback Hendon Hooker on the primary roster.
It’s the third and final elevation for Basham this season. To play again, the former Wake Forest star will have to be added to the 53-man roster.
Hooker, a Greensboro native, is expected to back up starter Andy Dalton this week, as Bryce Young recovers from an ankle injury; he is listed as doubtful. The team signed QB Mike White to the practice squad earlier this week.
The team says Young could still be listed as an inactive emergency third quarterback on Sunday, but Hooker can’t. Emergency third QBs have to be actual quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, and the Panthers only have two of those.
Young injured his ankle late in the win over the Jets last week.
