Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young finished the 2024 season on a high note, but his impressive performance was not enough to earn him a high spot on the PFF quarterback rankings. In a recent article, analyst John Kosko ranked the former first-overall pick as the NFL’s 20th-best quarterback, placing him near the top of the “Young Players With A Wide Range of Potential Outcomes” tier.
“After struggling mightily as a rookie and getting benched following two poor starts in 2024, Young completely turned things around,” Kosko writes. “From Week 8 onward…[Young led] the NFL with a 7.7% big-time throw rate while posting just a 2.3% turnover-worthy play rate. The 2025 season will be pivotal in proving that the breakout wasn’t just a flash in the pan.”

PFF: Panthers Bryce Young Is The NFL’s 20th-Best Quarterback
Bryce Young has to be one of the hardest players to rank on a list like this, as his volatile level of play leaves him with a wide range of outcomes. After a prolific collegiate career that made him the first-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Alabama product struggled to do anything in a horrific situation as a rookie. Following the arrival of head coach Dave Canales, an improved offensive line, and new offensive weapons, Young had the opportunity to improve and show what he could do at the NFL level.
Unfortunately, Bryce Young crashed and burned early in the season, landing on the bench as veteran Andy Dalton took over under center. However, a Dalton car crash paved the way for Young to return to the field, and he never looked back. Starting the rest of the season, Young finished the year on a high note and showed signs of being a true franchise quarterback.
Weird things happen in small samples, so it’s easy to see why PFF is cautious about putting Bryce Young higher on this list. If he can pick up where he left off in 2025, however, he should soar up these rankings and be the unquestioned future for the Carolina Panthers.
