CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — The Panthers cut 18 players Monday, four days after their final preseason game, and roughly half of all that are required.
The most experienced player on Monday’s list was kicker Matthew Wright, who was released. And two quarterbacks were waived, Jack Plummer and Bryce Perkins, who was with the team for exactly a week.
That leaves rookie Ryan Fitzgerald as the only kicker on the roster, though coach Dave Canales said last week they’d look at all the available kickers.
The other 17 players were waived, and will need to pass through waivers before they could sign to any team’s practice squad.
Plummer was on the practice squad most of last year until he was called up to the 53-man roster for the final two weeks. Perkins signed last week after Andy Dalton was injured, and played in the second half of the 19-10 loss to the Steelers.
Carolina announced three wide receivers being cut, leaving nine still on the roster.
The team must make 19 more cuts by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline to have a 53-man roster.
