CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies made it into the hands of students on Wednesday.
The Black & Blue were giving back to the community with the giveaway at Hidden Valley Elementary School.
Earlier this month, more than 700 volunteers joined the Carolina Panthers and over 30 sponsoring companies to fill more than 52,000 backpacks filled with supplies.
Those backpacks are now making their way into classrooms, directly into the hands of local students who need them most.
Staff with the event say every child across Classroom Central’s six core districts who is identified as economically disadvantaged by the NC Department of Instruction will receive a backpack. Those districts include Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Gaston, Union, Iredell-Statesville, Lancaster, and Kannapolis City. In South Carolina, it includes Marion, Dillon, Chester, and Fairfield Counties.
