Panthers Reacts Survey: Gauging our confidence in our confidence

We aren’t good, but we can at least have some fun at our own expense.

Every week we ask if you, our audience of consumate fans of the Carolina Panthers, are confident that the team is headed in the right direction. Every week, your responses seem directly proportional to the result of the previous game. If the Panthers win then fan confidence rises and if the Panthers lose then fan confidence falls.

This seems wholly independent of whether or not the Panthers are expected to win a game. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that the majority of fans seem to think the team can only be heading in the right direction if they are already winning. There is no, as one former head coach may have put it, trusting the process.

The ultimate challenge to this conclusion comes this week. Nobody objectively believes that the Carolina Panthers have a shot against the Kansas City Chiefs. A UFO could object Patrick Mahomes and the odds would probably still favor the club that has won three Super Bowls in the last five seasons.

So this week we are asking you two simple questions. The first is our standard confidence query and the second is asking if a loss to the Chiefs would, in any way, affect your opinion of the Carolina Panthers.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Carolina Panthers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
