Half of a Panthers team got wrecked by an entire Buccaneers squad. Sounds about right
2024 is almost over, both in the sense that today is New Year’s Eve and in the sense that Sunday is the last game of the regular season for the Carolina Panthers. Given the state of their current roster, that end can’t come soon enough.
The Panthers are limping to the finish line with six of their original projected starters on injured reserve, another 11 who made the injury report last week, and many more who had stints on IR along the way. That is brutal for a team with little depth to speak of. There are starters for this team, particularly on defense, who would struggle to crack the two-deep on more robust rosters around the league.
That sounds like an indictment of this team and it’s team building philosophies over the years and it is, to a degree. Years of mismanagement going back to the most recent—I hesitate to say last—Marty Hurney era have left the Panthers in this position. It is what it is and all we, as fans, can really do is hope for a more competent tomorrow.
All we’re asking this week is our standard confidence question. Again, this is not a “will they beat the Atlanta Falcons” question. It’s more of a “do you feel good about the current leadership and progress of the team” question.
Confidence this season has ranged from a low of 17% of fans in Week 2 to a high of 88% in Week 15, right before the team’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. It soared back last week to 86% after the team’s traditional embarrassment of the Arizona Cardinals.
