The running back signs a deal that ties him to Carolina for another four years.

The Carolina Panthers have signed running back Chuba Hubbard to a four year contract extension with a base value of about $33 million. $15 million are guaranteed.

Sources: The #Panthers have locked in one of their young stars, agreeing to terms with RB Chuba Hubbard on 4-year, $33.2M contract extension.

Hubbard was often maligned as a rookie for his inconsistent hands and underwhelming ability to break tackles. He rectified those issues heading into his second season and has become one of the few consistent bright spots on what’s otherwise when a dreadful Panthers offense for the past couple of years.

This season has been his best to date. He sits fifth in the league in rushing yards with 665 through nine games. He’s added five touchdowns on the ground and another one through the air. That’s a pace of 1,256 yards and 11 total touchdowns. That and his 5.0 yards per carry aren’t bad on an offense that’s provided little help in the way of a passing game.

The Panthers are seemingly tried to create their own version of the Sonic and Knuckles pairing the Lions have with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Chuba will be the grinder, while rookie running back Jonathon Brooks will be the home run hitter. Hopefully it pans out that way.
