Panthers to keep looking for DL help after losing out on Carlos Dunlap

July 28, 2022 by Panthers Wire

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap had a choice to make, and he didn’t choose the Carolina Panthers.

On Thursday, the 13-year veteran agreed to sign on with the Kansas City Chiefs, spurning the Panthers and their pursuit for some help in the trenches. Dunlap is inking a one-year, $8 million deal with the defending AFC West champions.

So, what’s next for Carolina?

According to head coach Matt Rhule, there’ll be more fishes in the sea for his Panthers. And if there isn’t, he’s happy with what they have.

“I think we’ve kinda had an eye on, ‘Hey, we like the guys that we have,” Rhule said following the second practice of training camp. “We like the Burnses, the Hayneses, the Yeturs. We like that group. Keeping an eye on other guys if they pop open as they’re available. But not a major need that we feel panicked about. Just, we’re always trying to do a good job of looking and seeing ‘Hey, how can we upgrade?’”

A wait-and-see approach, huh? Well, that worked out pretty nicely for them the last time they tried it.
