On the surface, the Panthers’ 30-0 win over the Falcons is a dominant victory. When you look at the box score, it wasn’t so impressive.

Bryce Young only threw for 121 yards and zero touchdowns. The Falcons outgained the Panthers 332 to 224. Carolina even had a defensive touchdown to go along with two rushing scores.

The Panthers now face a Patriots team that ranks second against the run (60.3 yards per game).

Everything that could have gone wrong in the loss to the Steelers went wrong. New England turned the ball over five times, including two in the red zone.

Maye threw for two touchdowns, but he made two backbreaking turnovers that ended drives.

While the Patriots’ run defense is excellent, their pass defense is atrocious. Without Christian Gonzalez, New England’s defense has allowed the fourth most passing yards per game (256.3).

The Patriots are optimistic Gonzalez can play, but if he can’t, Carolina could have success throwing the ball despite Young’s slow start — two games of less than 154 passing yards.

I doubt the Patriots will turn the ball over five times at home against Carolina. I also don’t think they’re good enough to be favored by five points. The Patriots should win by a field goal, but I’ll take the Panthers to cover the number.

Pick: Panthers +5 (-105)

Panthers vs. Patriots Prop

Despite his turnover problems, Maye is throwing the ball much more than last season.

Through three games, Maye ranks fifth in passing yards (785) and seventh in passing touchdowns (5).

Carolina’s pass defense is in the top half of the league at 196.7 yards per game. The Panthers’ defense has only allowed one quarterback (Kyler Murray) to throw for over 200 yards this season.

However, Maye has passed for at least 230 yards in every game. With New England still figuring out their backfield, I’ll trust Maye to have a good day through the air.

Pick: Drake Maye Over 208.5 Passing Yards (-114)
