Interesting player specific bets for Week 14
Welcome back to Week 12 of our new weekly series that we are bringing to you courtesy of our friends over at DraftKings Sportsbook. Here we’ll take a look at the most interesting—or riskiest—player prop bets each week for the Carolina Panthers.
Every week we try to steer you towards some of the safer, or wilder, bets that you can make on this team. With the Panthers well into their second losing streak of the 2023 season, and nobody on the team having a statistically significant season, there are slim pickings when looking for prop bets around Panthers players.
That said, the team did give us some insight into their plans last week. Jonathan Mingo received a much larger target share in the passing game. The rushing attack was simplified, leading to more success for Chuba Hubbard in particular. Oh, and the team still had enough trouble sustaining drives that Eddie Piñeiro once again did not have enough opportunities to hit his over. I don’t expect a lot to change this week against the New Orleans Saints.
First TD Scorer:
Chuba Hubbard +950
Adam Thielen +1100
These are the only two Panthers players in the top seven odds for the game’s first touchdown scorer. Miles Sanders and Jonathan Mingo come in at ninth and 11th, respectively. DJ Chark is 14th, right behind the Saints defense/special teams.
This isn’t advice to take these bets. They are fairly long odds and the idea of the Panthers scoring, let alone doing so first, is a hard one to swallow. This is advice to be very wary of betting in favor of any Panthers player. Take the under on any one player’s stats and you’ll probably be pretty safe.
Rushing Yds
Bryce Young – O/U 11.5 (-115/-115)
Chuba Hubbard – O/U 56.5 (-115/-115)
These are perhaps the two exceptions to the advice above. Young only needs to break one good scramble to hit his over and Hubbard has been running well. He’s the team’s primary back at this point and 57 yards seems like an achievable line for him. Take the over on both of these.
Eddie Piñeiro Kicking Pts – O/U 5.5 (-105/-130)
Listen, at this point it is just tradition to end this list with Piñeiro’s chances. My heart wants to take the over here, and a successful running game on Hubbard’s back makes it quite possible. But let’s not forget that the Panthers have had such mixed success on offense in recent weeks as to keep Piñeiro from having the opportunities to hit his over. I’d stay away from this bet this week. We need more data on just how successful the Panthers are going to be on offense under Thomas Brown’s full control.
