CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The final preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers airs Thursday, August 21 — and the Black & Blue are getting ready to take the field.
Thursday’s game is all about the guys battling for roster spots, and this is their last opportunity to prove what they can do.
After playing against the Browns and Texans, none of the Panthers’ starters will be taking the field in the preseason finale against the Steelers.
Not only does it allow the players further back on the depth chart to receive quality in-game reps, but it also allows most of the first and second team players to rest, with a handful of key players still recovering from injuries.

While most of the singular position battles are relatively decided, it’s all about finding depth in center areas like receiver. We’re also seeing who can make a difference on special teams.
For many players, it’s that third phase of the game that will make the difference in whether they make the roster or not.
“Feel free to show us that you want to make this team,” Coach Canales said. “Show us a win, show us that we can count on you.”
Even without starters on the field, QB is a position to watch.
Over the weekend, the Panthers signed former Super Bowl champion and reigning UFL MVP Byrce Perkins to the roster. It’s a big opportunity for him to potentially stick around as the third quarterback as he makes his comeback to the NFL.
