Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks has returned to the comeback trail.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Brooks underwent a “successful” ACL surgery on his right knee last week. The procedure was the second in as many years for the young rusher, who tore the same ACL in November of 2023 while playing for the University of Texas.
Brooks re-tore the ligament in Carolina’s Week 14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, just the third NFL game for the 2024 second-round pick. He had missed the first 10 outings of the campaign due to his recovery from the first tear.
The 21-year-old talked about sustaining the same devastating setback soon after his rookie season was cut short.
“It happened on the cut . . . I don’t know, it just happened,” Brooks said back on Dec. 12, four days after the injury occurred.. “I didn’t think, off of the cut, that it would’ve happened. But it did.
“There’s nothing you can do looking back on it, so I look onward and forward and know that God just has a greater situation for me ahead.”
Over his three appearances, Brooks totaled 22 rushing yards on nine carries and 23 receiving yards on three catches.
