Russell Wilson Signs 1-Year Deal With Giants & New York Fans Are Conflicted

After a successful season as a veteran quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson is already on the move and will reportedly sign a one-year deal with the New York Giants.

According to ESPN, he’s scheduled to earn $10.5 million guaranteed and up to $21 million if he hits specific incentives.

When the NFL season kicks off in the fall, it will mark his 14th season in the NFL. Most of it was spent with the Seattle Seahawks, where he made two Super Bowl appearances, ultimately winning XLVIII against the Denver Broncos.

However, after a reportedly contentious relationship with head coach Pete Carroll, he was shipped off to the Denver Broncos for just one season before last year’s campaign with the Steelers.

Now, as the Giants’ QB1, he joins a team that has struggled to find its identity in the post-Eli Manning era, and has since moved on from his dull heir apparent, Daniel Jones, and Saquon Barkley skipping town for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wilson may be joining his fourth team, but he took to social media to reveal he’s ready for the challenge.

“Been here before… can’t wait to do it again,” he tweeted, tagging the Giants alongside a photo of MetLife Stadium‘s entrance.

Of course, this is in reference to Wilson’s 2014 Super Bowl victory at the East Rutherford, New Jersey, venue. But his new home may not be permanent because, despite being the first-string quarterback, Jameis Winston and Tony DeVito are also under short-term contracts.

Plus, the Giants have the third pick in April’s 2025 NFL Draft, and all signs point to them selecting Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Back in January, team owner John Mara made it clear that finding a player under center was their biggest goal before the 2025 season begins.

“That’s obviously the number one issue for us going into this offseason, is to find our quarterback of the future,” Mara said. “Whether that be via the draft or acquiring a veteran, it’s going to be up to them to decide, ultimately.”

For the 10-time Pro-Bowler, this also marks the second time he’s played for a professional sports team in the Big Apple. He previously played for the Yankees in 2018 and even pitched for Aaron Judge in a game against the Atlanta Braves.
