Saints Fan Favorite A Possible Cut Candidate; Next Teams Emerge

August 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Taysom Hill is one of the most recognizable players on the present-day version of the New Orleans Saints, but he may have played his last down with the team. A holdover from the Sean Payton-Drew Brees Era, the do-everything weapon has been a key part of the team’s offensive identity for years and is one of the favorite players within the fanbase. However, all good things must come to an end, and the franchise icon may have played his final snap with the team.

In a recent article, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski named Hill as one of seven veterans who could be cut before Week 1. As Taysom Hill works his way back from a torn ACL, the NFL analyst notes that the 35-year-old isn’t the best fit for a rebuilding roster, even if he can return to form. With $10 million in cap savings on the line, nobody should be surprised if Hill plays for a new organization in 2025.

“For the Saints, the idea of keeping the soon-to-be 35-year-old veteran with his price tag doesn’t seem feasible regarding a team that’s clearly starting a rebuild,” Sobleski writes. “New Orleans can cut Hill and save $10 million toward the 2025 salary cap, which can be rolled toward the following season since the Saints are once again in the red for initial projections.”

Next Teams

Denver Broncos

Nobody loves Taysom Hill more than Sean Payton, so it only makes sense that he joins his coach in leaving the Saints for the Broncos. After making the playoffs with quarterback Bo Nix as a rookie, Payton and company should look towards making the next step in 2025. Hill won’t singlehandedly power this team to a Super Bowl championship, but a unique weapon like him could be good for a gadget play or two per game. The Broncos don’t have the deepest group of pass-catchers, so Hill could step in as a situational receiving tight end and make life a bit easier for Nix in Year 2.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers fixed their wide receiver woes with the Keenan Allen signing, but they could still use another tight end. Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin aren’t the worst group of tight ends in the NFL, but they’re far from the best. This team could use a more exciting option at the position, and Taysom Hill could be a solid low-risk, medium-reward option if the Saints cut him. If nothing else, a coach like Jim Harbaugh should be able to get the most out of Hill’s unique skillset.

Carolina Panthers

Fourth-round pick Ja’Tavion Sanders showed some promise as a rookie, but it wouldn’t hurt to add an experienced option to the depth chart. While nobody expects the Panthers to win the Super Bowl next year, they could make the playoffs if Bryce Young builds on his strong finish to the 2024 season. The Panthers know what Taysom Hill is capable of after his time with the rival Saints, so they might as well bring him in and add some experience to the roster.
