Kellen Moore has ended up in the NFC South after all.
As announced on Tuesday afternoon, the New Orleans Saints have finalized a deal to hire Moore as their new head coach. The former quarterback was reportedly one of two finalists for the Carolina Panthers’ head-coaching search in 2023.
The former quarterback is fresh off a Super Bowl LIX win as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles. He served in the same position for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 as well as the Dallas Cowboys from 2019 to 2022.
Moore, according to a report in early 2023 from Panthers beat writer Sheena Quick, had told the Cowboys (still his employer at the time) that he was the first runner-up for Carolina’s head-coaching vacancy. The Panthers, of course, opted for Frank Reich.
Reich ended up lasting just 12 weeks into the regular season. He was dismissed after a 1-10 start, making him the first coach since the 1970 merger to be fired in back-to-back seasons.
