The Carolina Hurricanes are making a refinement or two to their roster, on this, July 1st, or better known as, free agency day 2025. In a smaller deal, they already acquired goaltender Cayden Primeau from the Montreal Canadiens. The news today from Carolina is their young, tenacious forward Logan Stankoven signs an extension to stick around with the club. The deal is for a maximum eight years. Furthermore, it carries an average annual value of $6 million. Let’s find out what this means.

Logan Stankoven Signs In Carolina for Eight Years
The Carolina Hurricanes did find it difficult having Mikko Rantanen for 13 games and losing Martin Necas. However, the trade deadline 2025 did yield positive gains. Taylor Hall has since signed on for three-more years. Now, they’ve completed the gains from the trades in locking up Stankoven. From Carolina’s perspective, Stankoven is really what tipped the scales through all the trade deadline madness.
Stankoven is a Kamloops, BC native, who has shown glimpses of brilliance. He was a scorer back in junior, playing for his hometown Kamloops Blazers. Three times he scored 29-or-more goals. Moreover, that doesn’t include the 2020-21 season where he only played six games. In addition, since he has turned pro, despite his slightly, diminutive stature, he can produce. In 47 games at the AHL level, with the Texas Stars, he managed 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points. As Logan Stankoven signs, so far in his NHL career, the 22-year-old has played 102 regular season games, with 20 goals, 32 assists, totaling 52 points.
However, his sample, albeit small, from the postseason, is where we see the true potential of this kid. In 34 career games, already, he has eight goals and eight assists for 16 points. One highlight from the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, would’ve been a third period tying goal in Game 1 versus the Washington Capitals. Jaccob Slavin eventually won that one in overtime for Carolina.
Back to Stankoven, and for a smaller player, he does the dirty work along the boards, and doesn’t back down. When you quiz management about a guy like this, “sign this man” would most likely be the operable phrase. In any case, head coach Rod Brind’Amour clearly loves what he brings, and that’s saying something. He’s now secure for eight-more seasons, and Carolina is lucky it is them, he is with now.
