One of the more disappointing trades in Panthers history is in the books

The Carolina Panthers traded the unhappy Brian Burns, one of the few then-remaining stars on their team, to the New York Giants for a second round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and some change.

Original trade compensation for Brian Burns

Giants receive: Brian Burns, 2024 fourth-round pick
Panthers receive: 2024 second-round pick, 2024 fifth-round pick, 2025 fifth-round pick

Final trade compensation for Brian Burns

After the draft order was established last year and this year, we have the pick numbers:

Giants receive: Brian Burns, 2024 166th overall pick
Panthers receive: 2024 39th overall pick, 2024 141st overall pick, 2025 140th overall pick

But that’s not the end of it…

Who did the Panthers take with their picks from the Brian Burns trade?

Carolina flipped that second-round pick (39th overall) to the Los Angeles Rams for the 52nd and 155th overall picks in 2024 and a 2025 second-round pick (now the 57th overall pick).

They weren’t done there, however. Picks 52 and 141 were involved in trades that netted the team picks in the first and second rounds of the 2024 draft. Ultimately, all of those picks have now been made, rendering the trade complete.

The 2025 second-rounder was part of a trade up, too.

The full results of the trade are as follows:

  • 2024 Round 2 (52): Involved in the Jonathon Brooks trade (46 overall)
  • 2024 Round 5 (141): Involved in the Xavier Legette trade ( 32 overall)
  • 2024 Round 5 (155): Involved in the Jonathon Brooks trade (46 overall)
  • 2025 Round 2 (57): Involved in the Nic Scourton trade (51 overall)
  • Texas A&M.2025 Round 5 (140): We will update when the pick is made

How has Xavier Legette played for the Panthers?

Legette played 16 games for the Panthers in his rookie season, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns. He played 70% of the snaps in the games which he played and is a key piece of their plans going forward.

How has Jonathan Brooks played for the Panthers?

Brooks tore his ACL in college and was inactive to start the season on the non-football injury list. He was activated on November 6th but a month later he tore the same ACL. He played in three games, rushing nine times for 22 yards. He could miss the entire 2025 season as a result of the injury.

Who did the Giants do with their haul from the Brian Burns trade?

The Giants received:

  • Brian Burns, Edge
  • 2024 Round 5 (166): Tyrone Tracy Jr, Running Back, Purdue

How has Brian Burns played for the Giants?

Burns played all 17 games, recoding 8.5 sacks and 71 tackles while knocking down eight passes and forcing two fumbles. He signed a massive deal upon being traded, too.

How has Tyrone Tracy played for the Giants?

Tracy played 17 games for the Giants, becoming their lead back by the end of the season. He gained 839 yards on 192 rushes with five touchdowns on the ground. He added 284 yards on 38 receptions with a touchdown through the air.
