Carolina finally gets a safety
The Carolina Panthers selected Lathan Ransom, safety, Ohio State with the 122nd overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ransom is a running stopping safety who is physical, powerful, and an excellent tackler. He suffered a broken left fibula and tibia while on kickoff coverage during his 2021 season. He has returned to form and is projected as a box safety with similar strengths to Tre’von Moehrig.
The Panthers still need a free safety, as Ransom has a lot to work on in terms of coverage skills, but he does provide excellent depth behind Moehrig for now. His lack of coverage skills are likely to leave a lot of fans feeling a little sour about this draft pick, just keep in mind that the third day of the draft is the time for niche evaluations. You aren’t finding complete prospects here.
The Panthers are clearly focused on stopping the run first this coming year after an embarrassing 2024 season. Ransom will help them do that.
