The Carolina Panthers opened the season with a 26-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, undone by four turnovers and sloppy tackling.
“Obviously not good enough,” head coach Dave Canales said. “Anytime you have four turnovers in a game, you give an offense with a bunch of weapons more opportunities. This is the outcome.”
Carolina’s biggest miscue came on a fourth-and-1 in the third quarter, when Bryce Young’s pass fell incomplete to end a promising drive. Canales stood by the decision. “We just liked our matchup,” he said. “Wanted to put our guys in a comfortable position … and we didn’t execute.”
Television cameras caught a heated exchange between Canales and Young after the play, but the coach brushed it off. “We were just talking about we gotta keep playing ball,” he said.
The Panthers will look to regroup next week against the Arizona Cardinals.
