What Are the Charges Against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis After Two-Week Manhunt?

January 29, 2026 by Heavy

Former three-weight boxing champion Gervonta Davis was taken into custody in Miami on Wednesday, two weeks after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping, according to Miami Gardens police.

Police said the department worked alongside the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on a three-county surveillance operation that ultimately located one of boxing’s biggest stars in the Miami Design District, where he was arrested without incident.

Jail records show Davis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 10 p.m. Wednesday with bail set at $16,000.

What Are the Allegations Against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis?

The arrest warrant, issued Jan. 14, stems from an alleged incident on Oct. 27 at a strip club in Miami Gardens. Police say Davis entered the club and confronted his ex-girlfriend, who was working there as a VIP cocktail server. According to the police report, Davis allegedly took the woman into a back room, where he attacked and restrained her. The report states Davis grabbed her by the hair and throat and told her, “You think I would not find you,” before escorting her to the club’s parking lot, where he eventually released her.

The woman told police she met Davis in 2022 and that the two dated for five months in 2025 before the relationship ended and she stopped communicating with him.

The woman, Courtney Rossel, later filed a police report with Miami Gardens authorities and a separate civil lawsuit against Davis.

“What the police said is exactly in line with our lawsuit. So whatever investigation they did, they determined it was enough to get a judge to sign off on an arrest warrant,” the woman’s attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, told ESPN on Jan. 14. “The state attorney had to make the determination before, which coincides exactly with our civil complaint.”

In January, attorneys representing the woman said in court that they attempted multiple times to serve Davis with the civil complaint but were unsuccessful.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Was Supposed to Fight Jake Paul

At the time of the alleged incident, Davis had been training for a fight against Jake Paul scheduled for October at the Kaseya Center in Miami. He was later removed from the card following the filing of the lawsuit and replaced by Anthony Joshua. Davis last fought in March, when he fought Lamont Roach Jr. to a draw.

Davis has faced multiple legal issues in the past, including previous domestic violence charges, though many cases have been dropped. In 2023, he was sentenced to three years of probation and 90 days of house arrest in connection with a hit-and-run case in Baltimore.

It remains unclear how Davis’ arrest in Florida could impact his probation status in Maryland.
